DZJV Song Writing and Band Jam Competition
Mechanics:
• The Competition is open to all bands residing in CALABARZON area regardless of Genre
• Minimum of 3 members in a band
• Song entry must be original referring to the theme. Either English or Filipino
Theme: “Bangon Kabataan Para sa Bagong Pilipinas”
• No explicit/discriminating lyrics will be allowed
GRAND FINALS
• Grand finals will be aired live on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 10am to 2pm. It will be held at [final venue to be announced]
• Contestants are expected to be in DZJV Radio station 1.5 hours before the show. This will allow them to perform sound check, tuning, positioning and other related preparations. Any qualifying band not present at the start of the event shall be disqualified.
• Draw lots will determine playing order of Competing Bands.
• Competing Bands are given 10 minutes to play their song entry, time allowance include set-up, sound check, performance and tear-down. Points will be deducted accordingly to bands in violation of time allocation
• Amplifiers, drum set and other electronic equipment shall be provided by DZJV

o 3 VOCAL MICS W/ STAND
• Participating bands must bring their own cymbals, guitars, keyboards, drumsticks, jacks and other gadgets on the day of the grand finals.
• Any equipment damaged or destroyed by any participating band intentionally or accidentally shall be charged accordingly against the account of the responsible party.
JUDGING SYSTEM
The winner will be determined in 2 contexts:
1. By Voting (internet voting/texting) – 20%
2. Judges – 80%
VOTING MECHANICS
• The whole month of November will be allocated for the listener’s voting for their choice of song entry of the participating bands.
• One mobile number is equal to one vote
• Song entries of the grand finalists will be posted at DZJV’s official website so listeners could also vote via internet.
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
• Planning/Preparedness – 20%
o Preparation. Tuning - were the instruments and equipment made ready prior to performance? Did the band start on time?
o Evidence of rehearsal e.g. lyrics learnt etc? Appeared ready and prepared to play?
• Originality 20%
o Material. How unique did the songs sound? Did the songs fit the set? Did the songs fit the genre?
o Appearance. Did the band look original? Did the band stand out? 1-5
o Improvisation. Did the band demonstrate any level of original improvisational skill? I.e. ‘jam out’ or vocal through an instrument change, repair or equipment failure
• Content/Message – 20%
o Is the song related to the theme? Does it convey the right message?
• Musicality/Quality of Performance – 20%
o Confidence/Competence. Did the band look at ease whilst playing? Did the band appear to be able to do what they wanted to do?
o Set Dynamism. Did the band’s setlist appear to play according to a plan?
o Stage Presence. Did the band use the stage effectively? Did the band appear positive about their performance? Did the band interact effectively on stage? How did the band cope with any problems they may have encountered?
o Conformance to contest rules. Did the band followed the rules stated in the contest i.e. time limit, profanity?
o Instrumentation
o Voice Quality
o Harmony and Timing
• Judges’ DECISIONS are FINAL.
• A “No-Show” shall automatically disqualify the band
• GRAND PRIZE: P25,000
CODE OF CONDUCT
• Bands and accompanying personnel are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and appropriate manner at all times whilst on the event premises.
• NO band members shall be allowed to perform wearing any clothing or items that refer to/or promote ILLEGAL DRUGS, SEX, SMOKING, ALCOHOL or themes considered inappropriate
• BAND member found to be under the influence of illegal substances and alcohol will not be allowed entry in the performers area
• This competition is friendly and for a cause, all participants must be courteous and respectful towards each other, the organizers, crew and judges. Any participant violating this rule may be disqualified with his band.
• The event organizers reserve the right to disqualify any band that is observed to be behaving in an uncompetitive or inappropriate manner.
